• Invercargill’s Splash Palace leisure pool will close temporarily in March for essential maintenance.
  • The closure allows for foam tile flooring replacement, ensuring long-term safety and durability.
  • Other areas of the facility will remain open, with work expected to finish by late March.

The leisure pool at Invercargill’s Splash Palace will be temporarily closed in March while essential maintenance work is carried out. The closure will allow for the replacement of the foam tile flooring, ensuring the pool remains safe and enjoyable for visitors.

Invercargill City Council Aquatic Services Manager Stephen Cook confirmed the pool—widely known as the wave pool—will be closed from Monday, 3 March, with a planned reopening on Monday, 24 March.

“While we know the leisure pool will be missed during its temporary closure, there is just no getting around it. The retiling of the leisure pool is a critical piece of maintenance work, to ensure we can future-proof the facility for our young swimmers and other pool users,” he said.

The process will take approximately three weeks. The first week will involve draining the pool and removing the current tiles, followed by a week of retiling. The final week will allow time for the tiles to dry before refilling the pool.

Cook noted that most of the costs for the work would be covered under the warranty for the existing tiles. He assured visitors that the maintenance would only affect the leisure pool and that the rest of the facility would remain open to the public. Efforts would be made to complete the project as quickly as possible to minimise disruption.

“We really appreciate everybody’s patience as we work to bring the leisure pool back to life, and look forward to welcoming swimmers back to enjoy the water and waves at the end of March,” he said.
