A new adventure race aimed at anyone from adventure experts to the adventure curious and everyone in between is being launched in Invercargill.
The Arrow Adventure Race, run by Arrow International and the Southland Triathlon and Multisport Club, will be a two-day 12 hour challenge involving mountain biking, orienteering, kayaking and trekking.
Arrow International Southern Director Nick Hamlin says the race will be a good test for anyone from weekend warriors to multisport addicts and encourages Southland businesses to get on board.
“At Arrow International, we like to push the boundaries and challenge ourselves to do things differently. We’re putting the call out to other businesses to put a team forward and see what you’re made of.”
Set to take place at Sandy Point domain and parts of Oreti Beach, participants in teams of four will complete six hours of the challenge each day.
Southland Triathlon and Multisport Club spokesman Matt Randall says the days are designed to suit anyone with a reasonable level of fitness.
“It’s about encouraging as many people as possible to give it a go. While I can’t give away too many details on the course – you’ll find out on the day – rest assured it is well within the grasp of anyone with reasonable fitness and inclination for a bit of a challenge.”
In addition to the trekking, orienteering, mountain biking and kayaking – kayaks provided – there will also be one “mystery stage” involving an activity typical of Sandy Point.
Participants will also be treated to a post-race beer from the Invercargill Brewery.
The Arrow Adventure Race will take place on April 29-30, and is open to teams of four. It will cost $200 for a corporate team or $100 for a student team. For more details and registration go to southlandtriclub.co.nz
