A Strong Wind Warning – Orange has been issued for Fiordland, Southland including Stewart Island, and Clutha, with severe northwesterly gales gusting up to 120 km/h expected in exposed areas between 8am and noon on Monday.

MetService warns that another period of strong winds is possible on Tuesday, although the chance of an upgrade to a Red Warning remains low.

The winds are expected to cause damage to trees, powerlines, and unsecured structures, and motorists—especially those driving high-sided vehicles or motorcycles—are urged to take extra care.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items such as bins, garden furniture, and trampolines to prevent them from becoming dangerous projectiles.
