Severe gales for exposed parts of the lower South Island and lower North Island today
A deep low will move eastwards south of New Zealand today, spreading strong west to southwest winds over parts of the country.

A Strong Wind Warning remains in force for Southland including Stewart Island, Clutha, Dunedin.

Coastal Southland, Clutha and Dunedin, in particular, are likely to experience unseasonably cold temperatures, boosted by the significant wind chill.

People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case any changes are made.

Strong wind gusts could damage trees, powerlines and unsecured structures. Driving may be hazardous, especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.

Valid: 12 hours from 10:00am to 10:00pm Monday
Forecast: West to southwest gales gusting 120 km/h in exposed places.

Area: Coastal Southland and Clutha, also Stewart Island
Valid: 11 hours from 9:00am to 8:00pm Monday
Forecast: West to southwest gales gusting 120 km/h in exposed places.
