A cold front moves northeast over the country today, followed by cool southwest winds. Winds are forecast to strengthen on Friday, and may approach severe gale in exposed parts of Southland, Clutha and Dunedin from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning.

Please note, heavy southwest swells are expected to affect many New Zealand coasts from Friday through the weekend.

Area: Coastal Southland including Stewart Island, also coastal Clutha and Otago Peninsula
