State Highway 1 Car Accident Mataura near the Glencoe Hwy (Updated)
At 5:45pm there was a three car crash on the Pioneer Highway, Mataura near the Glencoe Hwy.
What we know:
- Three ambulances and one helicopter (from Dunedin).
- Ambulance officers treated three patients (no ages or genders available)
- One with serious injuries (status 2), which was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital
- One patient with moderate injuries (status 3)
- One patient with minor injuries (status 4), both of which were transported to Kew Hospital by ambulance.
Police comms call centre confirmed to whatsoninvers.nz that State Highway 1 is closed. With detours in place.
We are still trying to get more info from Police this will be updated as we get more information.

There are missing dogs from this evenings accident not just the guys taken to Dunedin we are worry about the dogs hears some infor about them The white one is Duke, one brindle is Storm the other is Rock and we know nothing about the other dog as he only picked her up last night
4 dogs that were in their owners truck involved in an accident on state Highway 1 just South of Mataura have gapped it, please keep an eye out. 2 brindle, one white with tan spots, the 4th we are not sure. Please ring 0276623748 if seen
Breaking: There’s been a number of people messaging us, Police comms confirmed that there’s been a major car accident on state highway 1 near Brydone, Southland.
People sent in- Detours are in place closure highway just after Mataura on the way to Invercargill.
