It was also captain Jordan Stewart’s 100th match for the club, and he said he woke up on Sunday with the Galbraith shield beside him, and still wearing his blazer. Related: Star Captain Clocks Up 100 Games In Club Rugby Final

“I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend to be honest.”

Blazers are given to team members after their 50th game, with a badge added to it for their 100th – and the timing just happened to co-incide with the premier final, making it even more special.

Saturday’s win was also Star’s second since Jordan joined the team, as he was part of the victorious winning side back in 2015.

Overall he’s played in five premier finals. Star has taken out the Galbraith Shield 29 times since it started back in 1908.

Celebrations on Saturday afternoon stayed at the club rooms and then continued again on Sunday, followed by a barbecue at a team mates house.

The captain of Star for the past four to five years, Jordan first started playing for Midlands club after leaving Southland Boys’ High School.

He’s always loved the game and particularly being part of a club where he’s made life long mates through the sport.
