This week the spotlight goes in New Zealand Country Music with the 44th New Zealand Gold Guitar Awards being held in Gore, the home of New Zealand country music.

This is no small beer event. Over 700 contestants from all over New Zealand find their way to Gore to perform in front of audiences totalling over 5000!

And the value of the prize offerings just gets bigger and bigger. This year the total value of the prize pack is close to $15,000

The serious stuff starts tomorrow evening (Thurs) with the New Zealand Songwriters Trust contest featuring the MLT Songwriting Awards, APRA Best Country Music Song, Recorded Music NZ Best Country Album. Also live performances from all finalists/nominees, and Guest Artist Marian Burns. This is all at the SBS St James Theatre in Gore, doors open at 7.15 for drinks and nibbles, show starts at 8.

All the other info on the where’s and when’s are on www.goldguitars.co.nz and switch on to Hokonui FM for goldguitars info.

So welcome one and all who have travelled distances to hear the best in New Zealand Country Music. Enjoy your time in the sunny south!

By the way, here’s last years winner of the top ward, the Senior Section, our very own Alice Fraser.
