Corbin Strong has signed with the SEG Racing Academy for the 2020 season. The Dutch UCI continental outfit is the leading development team in the world with a long list of successes in 2019, and Strong will form part of that outfit as he targets the Tokyo Olympics.
Currently the home of the likes of Australians Alexander Evans and Kaden Groves – the latter a five-time stage winner in races this season – New Zealand is set to make its mark on the SEG Racing Academy team in 2020 in the form of Strong. The Kiwi has had a fantastic 2019 season that has included a points classification victory at the International Tour de Banyunwangi Ijen and the best young rider classifications at the Tour de Korea and Tour de Kumano, along with eleven top ten results for the 19 year old this season.
The prospect of joining SEG Racing is certainly an exciting one, with Strong aware of the strength of the team that was formed in 2015. “The reputation that SEG Racing Academy has is second to none. They have a very professional set up and the past five years show that it’s been a successful one. I feel privileged to race for SEG Racing Academy in 2020,” Corbin said in a team announcement.
Over the years riders to have graduated from the SEG Racing Academy set up into World Tour success have included Fabio Jakobsen, Koen Bouwman, Steven Lammertink and Nick Schultz. Strong will hope to add his name to the growing list of success stories. “I am looking forward to developing my cycling skills on and off the bike and gaining experience in the European scene. I hope to eventually follow the path of many other Academy riders and sign a pro-contract in the future,” Strong said.
Strong is currently at the Oceania Track Cycling Championships in Invercargill, where he finished third in the omnium last night behind Sam Welsford of Australia and Kiwi compatriot Campbell Stewart.
