Two overnight crashes have forced major road closures across Southland, with emergency services expected to remain at both scenes for much of the day.
In Invercargill, "Leet Street in Invercargill is closed following a single-vehicle crash that occurred around 2:20am." Police confirmed the Serious Crash Unit has been notified as investigations get underway.
The closure stretches across several key sections of the city. Road closures are confirmed from Gala Street to Yarrow Street, followed by another closure from Jed Street to Dee Street. Diversions have been put in place, and drivers are being warned to expect delays while emergency crews continue their work.
St John was notified of a motor vehicle accident in Invercargill at 02:29 and responded two ambulances. Four people were assessed at the scene. "Our crews assessed and treated four patients, three in a moderate condition who were treated at the scene, and one in a moderate condition who was transported to Southland hospital."
Further north, another crash has caused disruption on Winding Creek Road. Winding Creek Road in Southland is blocked following a single-vehicle crash. Emergency services were alerted earlier in the night. "The crash was reported to emergency services around 12.40am."
Injuries have been reported, though details remain limited. "The Serious Crash Unit has been advised." Authorities have warned motorists to stay clear of the area while crews manage the situation.
The road is expected to be blocked for most of the day, with drivers urged to delay travel or seek alternative routes where possible.
