Southland Musicians Club News

Dunedin alt-rockers Iron Mammoth’s gig at the Southland Musicians Club on Friday night is a fitting way to herald a mammoth lineup of gigs coming up to the club.

If you’ve noticed the weird rantings in this column and thought about coming down to our Preston Street venue for a geezer at one of the many gigs we host, I’ve got three words for you: just do it! We’d love to see you there. Here’s what’s in store for you epic people.

February 21: Iron Mammoth w/ Filth Wizard There’s nothing generic about these peaky Dunedin lads. Frenetic offbeat rock performed with gusto on non-generic rock instruments. Check out their song Heart to the Slaughter on Spotify. Glorious! $10 on the door.

February 28: The Eastern One of Aotearoa’s great country music, beard and banjo musical collectives, The Eastern bring their riotous, rollicking alt-country experience to Invers. Some money is expected to change hands at the door. Not too much probably. Adam McGrath’s quite good like that.

March 3: AGM you are most welcome to join us at our groovy little enclave’s annual general meeting. Why not put your name forward for the committee? Kickoff at 7.30pm.

March 7: Die Musikband w/ Darcy Kerr “Our set shifts between structured synth-rock pieces and motoric jams,” explains drummer Jeff Harford, formerly of seminal Shayne Carter Dunedin band Bored Games. Yowzah! $10 pre-sales on undertheradar.co.nz or $15 on the door.

March 12: Molly Devine w/ Maddy PC Heartfelt, soulful, danceable and new, New Zealand artist Molly Devine is fresh on the scene with her EP, Rain in the River, and new single, Call Me Up. Watch the Southland Musicians Club Facebook page for ticket details.

March 21: Chroma 3 Invercargill’s own very active Rainbow Nation bring you the third incarnation of Chroma, a musical shining beacon of the LGBTQI+ community.

March 27: Bex Marshall Blues Trio Musical tsunami Bex Marshall is a British Blues Award winner and four-time European Blues Awards nominee. Her unique style of guitar playing and Joplinesque powerhouse voice are going to slay southern blues fans, for certain. I am so there Ticketing TBC.

April 3: ILT Southland Entertainment Awards The club’s glamour event of the year, with special guest artists Andy Dickson from The Narcs and our very own national treasure Jenny Mitchell. Tickets from the ICC Booking Office or online at ticketrocket.co.nz

April 4: Ronél Hunter Kaka Point-based, South Africa-raised storyteller-singer-songstress Ronél Hunter brings her Move at Will album release tour to Invercargill.

May 13/14: Guitar Legends Southern axelings honour the gods of guitar. Valhalla will rise and rejoice.

May 28: Jordan Luck Band No introduction needed. $40 + BF on undertheradar.co.nz
