Southland marching teams displayed their hard work, dedication, passion and comradery, skill, creativity and fun at the 2023 South Island Marching Championships, hosted by Marching Southland at ILT Stadium Southland last weekend.

The event attracted 28 teams from all over the South Island, who competed for the top awards in various categories and age groups. Southland was well represented by seven competitive teams, who achieved remarkable results.

The Hokonui u18 team was the star of the show, placing first in both the technical and display categories, making them the champion team for the second year in a row. The Hokonui u13 team also impressed the judges and the audience, winning both the technical and display categories as well, and becoming the champion team in their age group.

The other Southland teams also performed admirably, reaching their goals and showcasing their talents. The Southland teams’ success gives them a great boost heading into the national championships, which will be held in Hamilton in March 2024.
