Billed as a fundraising event not to be missed – Saturday, July 29 will see many Southland entertainers take to the stage during a night of entertainment and fun to raise funds for Jack Lovett-Hurst and his family, to attend the New York City Marathon in November.
Jack, 20, has muscular dystrophy and is one of only two, hand cycle riders selected from New Zealand to compete in the gruelling 42.2km marathon, with about 50,000 international competitors expected to take part.
The fundraiser event will be hosted by well-known New Zealand identity and long-time friend of Jack and his family, Brendon Pongia, and will also include a variety of items up for auction during the night – as well as raffles for a number of great prizes.
Debbie, Jack’s mum and his step-dad Greg will also be travelling to America to support him during the marathon. The family said, most of the “awesome” auction and raffle items had been donated by local businesses, individuals, groups and families who supported Jack in his dream of attending the marathon.
Supper and nibbles would also be provided by Ascot Hotel Catering during the evening, and would include nibbles for guests on arrival and hot food platters delivered to tables during the event.
Earlier this week more than 100 tickets had been sold to the 250-limited ticket event, which will be held on the main court at ILT Stadium Southland. Mrs Houkamau said extra tickets would be available if interest required it.
“We are so grateful to the ILT Stadium Southland management and staff for their support, by allowing us to use the stadium for this event,” she said.
The event includes an entertainment line-up of Dave McMeeking, Hemi Hakena Kapa Haka Group, Saelyn Guyton and Tahne Brown, as well as performances from Jason Schmidt, Lipstick, Liv McBride, Khellsey-Anna Atley, The Dense, Michaela Hoffman and Hazel Blue.
There will be a serviced bar on-site and tables of 10 can be booked for group bookings. Doors open at 6.30pm and the evening will begin at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost $35 per person and are available from the ILT Stadium Southland or by contacting Rhonda Hoffman on 027 312 3085.
