Six people have been injured in a serious crash in Southland, prompting a major emergency response. Two individuals are in critical condition, while a third is also critical but stable after being airlifted to Dunedin Hospital. Three others, suffering serious injuries, were transported to Kew Hospital by ambulance.

St John coordinated the emergency medical response, deploying three helicopters, a rapid response vehicle, five ambulances, and two managers to the scene.
Fire and Emergency personnel confirmed one person was trapped inside a vehicle and required extrication. Two crews from Winton and one from Kingswell assisted in the rescue operation.
There is a 30 km/h temporary speed restriction in place. Take extra care whilst travelling through this route.
