The Waimatuku Southern Scenic Highland Pipe Band has pulled off a coup in the pipe band world by being invited to play at next years Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Wellington.Band spokesperson Ann Robbie says it wasn’t a simple process of being asked to play. Ann Robbie says the southern band was chosen by the Brigadier of the Tattoo. She says they then had to apply to the Royal New Zealand Pipe Band Association to gain permission to play.Mrs Robbie says one feather in their band’s cap is that it is well known for its marching ability and that they parade in their number 1 uniform. The band is often seen on parade in events like the annual Santa Parade and ANZAC parades.Ann Robbie says while being invited to play at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Wellington is a huge honour getting there will be no cheap exercise. She says the costs of flights will be around $12,000 for the 20 band members who will be travelling.The band is cranking up its fundraising activities with a Celtic Ball being held onSaturday October 10 at the Waianawa Hall. Tickets are $50 double which includes supper,  are available from Ann Robbie at Sport Southland or any band member.The Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Wellington will be held over 4 days in February next year.
