Southland Artist Excited To Be Working With ILT on the Langlands Hotel

Southland artist Trudy Burdon is excited to be working alongside ILT.

ILT has commissioned Trudy to provide prints of her work for 68 rooms in ILT’s new landmark hotel, The Langlands, which is scheduled for completion in 2022.

“As a born and bred Southlander, it’s a fantastic feeling to be involved in this community project,” Trudy said.

“I love the way the ILT is so supportive of local arts and it’s an honour to be working with them on this.”

ILT’s Chair Alan Dennis shares Trudy’s sentiment.

“We went out to a range of potential national and local suppliers for the hotel’s artwork. Trudy really stood out to us particularly as we are motivated to support local. We’re delighted to feature her artwork which will add to the vibrancy of our city’s newest hotel,” he said.

“The Langlands is ILT’s largest development in our 77 year history and we’re eagerly anticipating opening the doors in the coming months.”

The two pieces being featured in rooms at The Langlands are titled ‘Whanaungatanga II’, which is about relationships, support, a sense of belonging and connection and ‘Whakarongo II’ which describes the value of people listening and understanding each other. Both pieces are inspired by Trudy’s feelings about the importance of connection and community.

Trudy works with local family-owned business Cameo Picture Framers to create reproductions of her original pieces as high quality giclee prints on archival paper. Each piece for The Langlands will be locally framed, printed and hand-signed.

“I’ve been working with Murray, Jill and Jason at Cameo throughout my art journey and they have been so generous with their time and advice. It’s fantastic that the ILT have opted to support local on a project of this scale,” Trudy said.
