It has been another successful season so far for Southland Marching teams.

Five teams finished in the top three at the recent South Island Championships, with the New Zealand Champs just two months away.

Marching Southland publicity and promotions officer Sheree Hall said teams are back training after the Christmas break and will compete at the nationals in the second weekend in March.

Hokonui U18 secured second Champion team and second in Technical at the South Islands, Hokonui U13 were first equal in Technical, and second Champion team.

Sheree said Southern Stars U13 marched beautifully, earning third place in technical and third overall.

“Blue Jay U18 and Blue Jay U13 showed their determination and commitment on the field. Their performances added to the strength and pride of Southland’s marching community,” she said.

Last year Invercargill hosted the New Zealand Marching Champs, at ILT Stadium Southland, and entered six teams out of the 37 competing nationally.

The Hokonui U18 team won the overall title for the third year in a row.  Hokonui U13’s also won a national title making it the second time undefeated, and were awarded 1st Technical and 1st Display as well.
