Hundreds of classic, custom, vintage and hot rod cars, trucks, caravans and motorbikes will be cruising through Invercargill tonight for the annual Southern Grilles and Gasoline car show.
Organiser Jason Pope said the weekend event, now in its 6th year, will kick off with a mystery run before the tour heads back through the central business district later this evening.
Tomorrow’s big car show at the Collegiate Rugby Club grounds will be on from 10am to 3pm, with free rides for the children, and entry is just a gold coin.
All proceeds will go towards the Southland Hospice, with $7000 raised for the Southland Food Bank from one of its last events.
There will be prizes on the day for the Best In Show, Best Bike, Best Australian vehicle, Best Import, Best American, Best Kids Ride, Best British/European, Best Commercial, Furtherest Travelled award and even a Hard Luck award.
New to the show this year is also the Best Tailored Project – which Jason said added something different to the mix, “because people want to see something new in construction and inspire the next person to get involved.”
Anybody wanting to check out some of the legendary wheels cruising through town should keep a look out for them in the CBD when they arrive back at 8:30pm tonight.
