Delays with building consents has pushed back the opening of the new south Invercargill McDonalds.
The restaurant, originally tipped to open in September, is now likely to open towards the end of November.
McDonald’s spokeswoman Kim Bartlett said the delay was from working through building consent details with the Invercargill City Council.
The restaurant, to be built on the corner of Elles Rd and Bowmont St, will employ about 40 staff.
Franchise owner Simon Rhind, who also owns the Dee St Invercargill and Gore McDonald’s, said he was expecting workers to start clearing the site this week.
“We hope to have it open mid-November,” he said.
Rhind has been increasing staff numbers at the Dee St restaurant in preparation for the opening of the new restaurant.
He had increased staff by 35 to 40 per cent in the past two months, he said.
“The aim is to hire specifically for the South Invercargill restaurant so the staff are trained before we open.”
