Silo collapse at Fonterra’s Edendale plant

Emergency services are at the scene of Fonterra’s Edendale plant in Southland, after a raw milk silo collapsed this afternoon.

A Fonterra spokesperson told RNZ the priority was accounting for staff at the plant.

The Fire Service said it was alerted about an hour ago that there had been an explosion at the plant.

A spokesperson said about six fire trucks had responded and were helping to account for workers at the site.

The spokesperson said there were no known injuries at this time but described it as a dangerous situation.
