Southland was battered by gale force winds and rain most of Wednesday continuing today.

Severe gale westerly for coastal Clutha, Southland including Stewart Island.

A disturbed west to southwesterly flow covers central and southern New Zealand. A couple of fronts embedded in this flow move northeast over New Zealand overnight Wednesday and on Thursday, with a period of severe westerly gales likely in the far south of the South Island where strong wind Warnings are in force.

Strong Wind Warning
Strong wind gusts could damage trees, powerlines and unsecured structures. Driving may be hazardous, especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.
