Teviot Road in Roxburgh is now blocked due to a slip. Police are advising motorists to avoid all travel to the area.
Roxburgh is currently inaccessible from the south, as Teviot Road was the diversion for the previously reported slips on SH8.
People wishing to travel to Central Otago from the south will need to consider travelling via State highway 87 and 85, or State Highway 6 from Southland.
Seven houses have been evacuated on Tweed Street, in Roxburgh, due to flooding and an evacuation point has been set up at the Roxburgh Fire Station.
Any residents who have concerns or need assistance can report the evacuation point or contact emergency services.
UPDATE 9:00PM:
Roxburgh residents who were evacuated from their homes due to flooding earlier this evening have all returned home as water is receding in the town.
Central Otago Emergency Management Officer Matt Alley says that the seven properties were evacuated as a precaution. Everyone had now been able to return home safely.
Roxburgh and Millers Flat residents are asked to conserve water overnight.
SH8 between Millers Flat and Alexandra remains closed in both directions overnight due to surface flooding and will be reassessed in the morning.
UPDATE 9:15PM:
Roxburgh town water supply is out of action. They have a generator on the road from Queenstown now, but fading light makes the site unsafe so work will recommence tomorrow.
Boil water notices stay in place.
There are water tanks sorted to come down now, bringing drinking water from Alexandra. This will be available tomorrow, Monday.
UPDATE 9:45PM:
Police have asked that all non essential travel in or out of Roxburgh be postponed tomorrow, Monday 27. Make plans now as even when the road is open there will be delays, stop goes and likely to be just one lane.
