Police, Fire and Ambulance are currently attending a serious crash 8km south of Lumsden.
St John South Island communications adviser Ian Henderson said St John was alerted to the crash on the Lumsden-Dipton Highway at 4.08pm.
It appears a vehicle has collided with a pedestrian in his 20s receiving serious injuries.
Fire crews from Lumsden and Dipton were on scene assisting ambulance services with traffic control.
The road has been closed and motorists can expect delays.
As police will be launching a serious crash investigation, police will not be commenting on the cause of the crash.

Police can confirm a 21 year old male farm worker was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital in a serious condition after being hit by a car on State Highway 6 south of Lumsden, while crossing the road to open a gate.
The 76-year-old female driver of the vehicle is currently being assessed on the scene by emergency service personnel.
The road was closed but reopened at 6pm.
