More than double the number of people attended last Saturday’s Hardpark Takeover at the Ascot Park Raceway, and organisers are super happy with the turn out.

Faded Media & Events business owner Troyden Findlay said adding the family area to this year’s event was definitely a huge hit – as well as all of the interesting collections of cars and motorbikes.

A total of 160 cars were involved in the second event, including a P100D Tesla Model X from Christchurch, but not all of the 184 registered could make it because of Covid, he said.

“We had a lot of people through the gate including children. There were a lot of kids and the lolly scramble and bouncy castles were a hugely popular with younger car enthusiasts.”

Troyden said the Southern Dragways ‘start ups’ was also a huge hit, and plans are already underway for the next HPTO in April 2023.

The raceway is twice as big as last year’s Otepuni site, which attracted around 700 people – a successful event under the Level 2 restrictions they had.

Troyden said the feedback from last year’s show was that people just loved all of the diversity of the show and the variety of cars.

A portion of proceeds from this year’s gate sales would be going towards the Ronald McDonald House South Island – Southland Room
