The Ronald McDonald Family Room team is thrilled that they’re now able to pick up guests, help run errands and provide even more support to families of sick children staying at Invercargill hospital.
SBS Bank delivered a vehicle for the team on Friday as part of extending its existing sponsorship of a bedroom at the Ronald McDonald Family Room, Southland Hospital. The facility is attached to Southland Hospital’s neonatal unit and children’s ward and provides free accommodation and support for families so they can focus on what matters most – their child.

Having been a Ronald McDonald House South Island (RMHSI) sponsor since 2012 in Christchurch, SBS Bank GM Strategy and Marketing, Phil Jamieson, said they were delighted to have extended their sponsorship to the Invercargill House. “With the growing demand for the Invercargill facility, we could also see how useful a vehicle would be to remove some of the day to day stress from families and staff if they were more mobile.”
RMHSI CEO Matthew Mark said, “This is the first vehicle we’ve had since the Family Room opened in 2013 and our team is delighted that they’ll now be able to take families to and from the airport and hospital, pick up evening meals for families staying, and run other errands to help out.”
He added, “Supporting Kiwi families is at the heart of what we do, so it’s fantastic to partner an organisation like with SBS which also shares our community vision.”
