The Invercargill City Council made the decision to close a part of Queens Park at the Feldwick gates entrance, around lunchtime today (Wednesday). This closure was a safety measure due to strong winds that left a tree in a precarious state, threatening to fall.
The trees will be removed once the strong winds ease up and its safe for parks staff to get it done, hopefully on Thursday.
This incident isn’t the first time Queens Park has faced such issues. Back in July, a tree near the Queens Drive entrance fell over due to strong winds.
And back in 2018, around seven trees had to be urgently removed from the city’s green belt after one fell onto several parked cars cars.
