A small rubbish fire outside the Coachmans Inn Motel on Tay Street late Wednesday evening drew attention after video footage from the scene made the blaze appear more extensive than it actually was.

Emergency services responded to the incident, however it was quickly determined the fire was only a small rubbish or skip fire. Crews were able to extinguish it quickly and there was no damage to the motel buildings.

The motel property has recently been undergoing restoration. In August last year, whatsoninvers.nz reported that the old Coachmans Inn at the entrance to Invercargill was being restored to its former glory.

Luxury motel owners KTC, based in Auckland, purchased the motels and holiday park last year. The company also owns motels on Queens Drive.

The original Coachmans Inn accommodation was built in 1973 and had not had any significant work done to it since it first opened.
