- Rotary Book Sale has raised over $1 million for local causes in 43 years
- This year’s sale will be held at Scottish Hall from May 30 to June 1
- Event features books, DVDs, CDs, and a large range of puzzles
The Rotary Book Sale, which has raised over $1 million for local initiatives over its 43-year history, is being held at the Scottish Hall this year, moving from its long-time location at the Civic Theatre. The event is scheduled to run from Thursday May 30 to Saturday June 1, from 8 am to 7 pm on Thursday and Friday, and 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday. Along with the thousands of books, this year’s event still has music, records, DVDs and CDs. This year there is a larger range of books for teenagers and young adults and a huge array of jigsaw puzzles.
Book Sale Committee chairman Richard Russell says the Book Sale remains popular with the public and everyone loves hunting out a bargain. However, he pointed out, “people may not realise how significant the sale is in helping various organisations.”
“In recent years, a major recipient is chosen and has received a cash boost of up to $10,000. It’s a lot of money that goes a long way to an organisation to continue the good work they do for communities. Highlighting that the Grace Street Project perfectly aligns with Rotary’s goals of supporting youth and education.
“This project is a reflection of our commitment to the community and particularly to the younger generations,”” he said.
“Rotary is about service above self and as a club, we participate in many community projects to make the place we live, work, and play better.”
Whatsoninvers.nz founder Mike Sanford said, “the Rotary Book Sale is one of our favourite community events to be involved with, its lots of fun.”
