Roading
Road maintenance work across Southland state highways will cause stop/go delays of up to 20 minutes at some sites from this weekend through to Saturday 14 November.
The busiest disruption is on SH1 at Henley, where road rebuilding continues until 5 February, Monday to Sunday from 6am and 7pm. Northbound light vehicles are being detoured via Henley Berwick Road, Centre Road and SH86. Southbound light vehicles are being detoured via Henley Road and Henley Berwick Road. Heavy vehicles remain on SH1. Delays of up to 20 minutes apply, with a temporary 30km/h speed limit in place.
On SH94 near Pop's View Lookout, the road will be closed for around five weeks for resilience improvement work between the Divide Carpark and the Hollyford Valley Road turn-off. Closures run Monday to Thursday, 8pm to 5am, with a short opening at 10pm to let traffic through. The Lookout may be unavailable during the day.
A stop/go and temporary 30km/h speed limit applies at all other sites listed below, with delays as noted.
Invercargill to Dunedin:
- SH1 Invercargill to Pukerau: Water cutting to improve the road surface will take place at several locations, 9 to 14 November 7am to 5pm.. Delays of up to 5 minutes.
- SH93 Mataura to Clinton: Water cutting at several locations, 9 to 14 November, 7am to 6pm. Delays of up to 5 minutes.
- SH1 Henley: Road rebuilding continues until 5 February, Monday to Sunday 6am to 7pm. Delays of up to 20 minutes. Northbound light vehicles detoured via Henley Berwick Road, Centre Road and SH86. Southbound light vehicles detoured via Henley Road and Henley Berwick Road. Heavy vehicles remain on SH1.
Invercargill to Queenstown and Milford Sound:
- SH6 Wilsons Crossing: Road strengthening, 11 to 13 November, 7am to 6pm. Delays of up to 5 minutes.
- SH6 Josephville: Road rebuilding, 8 to 14 November, 7am to 5:30pm. Delays of up to 10 minutes.
- SH94 The Key: Road strengthening and water cutting, 9 to 14 November, 7am to 6pm. Delays of up to 5 minutes.
- SH94 near Pop's View Lookout: Road closed Monday to Thursday, 8pm to 5am (short opening at 10pm), for around five weeks. Resilience improvement work between the Divide Carpark and the Hollyford Valley Road turn-off. The Lookout may be unavailable during the day.
Work on state highways across Southland:
SH1 Invercargill to Bluff: Road repairs including dig outs, will take place from 9 to 13 November from 7am to 6pm.
- SH95 Te Anau to Manapouri: Water cutting at several locations, Monday 9 to Saturday 14 November, 7am to 5pm. Delays of up to 5 minutes.
- SH96 Mataura to Glencoe: Water cutting at several locations, Monday 9 to Saturday 14 November, 7am to 5pm. Delays of up to 5 minutes.
- SH96 Springhills: Resealing, 8 to 14 November, 7am to 5:30pm. Delays of up to 5 minutes.
- SH96 Nightcaps: Road rehabilitation site preparation, 8 to 14 November, 7am to 5:30pm. Delays of up to 15 minutes.
- SH99 Wallacetown: Road work at various sites near Argyle, 8 to 14 November, 7am to 5:30pm. Delays of up to 15 minutes.
