• Drainage and roadworks will start early to finish within one day, avoiding longer disruption
  • Traffic lights and stop/go management will create delays on both sides of the Aparima Bridge
  • Drivers should expect queues and allow extra time for school and work travel

Drivers in Riverton and surrounding areas are being advised to expect delays tomorrow as roadworks and repairs get underway on two sections of State Highway 99.

From 7am, drainage and repair work will take place outside the Alliance plant. Traffic management will be in place, using temporary traffic lights and a lane drop. This is expected to cause delays of up to five minutes, especially during the busy morning commute to school and work.

The early start means crews aim to complete the job in one day, which will help avoid further disruption later in the week.

Further along SH99, a guardrail at the western end of the Aparima Bridge in Riverton needs replacing. This work will be carried out between 9am and 5pm tomorrow, with stop/go traffic control set up at both ends of the bridge. Traffic coming from Bay Road, the Orepuki-Riverton Highway, and across the bridge should prepare for hold-ups.

Motorists are asked to drive with care, slow down near work zones and expect queuing traffic throughout the day. Those with time-sensitive travel plans are encouraged to leave earlier than usual.
