UPDATE 6:50pm: Second fatality following Riverton Wallacetown Highway crash

A woman critically injured in a crash on Riverton Wallacetown Highway this
afternoon has died.

The crash occurred at the Oreti River Bridge at 1.30pm.

A man died at the scene and the woman was transported to Dunedin Hospital in
a critical condition.

Sadly, she passed away at the hospital a short time later.

The road remains closed between Cumnock Street and Taramoa Road.

Motorists are asked to follow the diversions that are in place.

UPDATE 4:20pm: Update – serious crash, Riverton Wallacetown Highway

One man has died following the serious two-vehicle crash at the Oreti River Bridge.

Another woman was reported to be in critical condition.

The road is expected to remain closed for some time while the Serious Crash Unit attends the scene.

Motorists should expect delays, take an alternative route or delay travel through the area.

UPDATE 3:30pm: SH99 Oreti River Bridge just out of Wallacetown remains CLOSED with a detour in place via Lochiel Bridge Rd. Please continue to expect DELAYS as the closure is expected to be in place for some time while investigations & clean up take place.
