Gore residents have a month to shape how their district grows.
Gore District Council is seeking feedback on proposed changes to its Subdivision and Land Development Bylaw, with consultation running from June 1 to July 3.
The bylaw sets standards for how land is subdivided and developed across the district, managing infrastructure, roads and land use.
Council's critical services manager Jason Domigan said the bylaw plays an important role in everyday life despite being technical.
"This bylaw underpins how development occurs in Gore alongside the District Plan – setting controls for infrastructure, earthworks and landscaping within the district," Domigan said.
The review aims to keep the bylaw current with the proposed district plan decisions and new national direction, while streamlining the approval process.
"We're making sure the rules are clear, practical and reflect current engineering standards, while also providing for and enabling sustainable development," Domigan said.
The bylaw manages how new developments connect to roads, water, wastewater and stormwater systems, ensuring coordinated and sustainable growth.
"Good development doesn't happen by accident, it relies on clear standards that protect our infrastructure and support the way our district develops," Domigan said.
As a full review, community feedback will be considered before councillors make a final decision later this year.
Residents can make submissions online at www.goredc.govt.nz or www.lets.talk.goredc.govt.nz, or in person at council offices. Hearings are scheduled for August.
"We're encouraging anyone with an interest to take a look and tell us what they think," Domigan said.
