A record number of entries will ensure superbike fans will more than get their fix out of this year’s Burt Munro Challenge.

The Invercargill street racing and Teretonga experience plus the opportunity to compete with internationally renowned world record holding speedster Guy Martin, are said to be behind the registration of in excess of forty superbikes this year.

Invercargill Street Race coordinator Garry Jamieson says the number of registrations in the superbike category is outstanding.

“Without a doubt the chance to line up on a starting line with Guy Martin has a lot to do with the increase in entries this year, but the growing reputation of the Invercargill street race combined with the Teretonga circuit can’t go without special mention.

“There are just four countries where it’s possible to get a motorcycle street racing experience in the world. The Invercargill circuit presents a tempting challenge to top riders that can’t be found anywhere else in the southern hemisphere.”

“I know of guys who are coming out of competitive retirement to race against Guy Martin as well as the best superbike riders in the country.”

Group Manager Community, Tourism and Events Bobbi Brown is full of praise for those behind the scenes that make the Burt Munro Challenge possible.

“The event is an outstanding showcase for the region and provides significant regional economic benefit. Venture Southland is proud to provide support to the Burt Munro Challenge organising committee.”

Superbike motorcycles are those that have four-stroke engines of between 850cc and 1200cc for twins, and between 750cc and 1000cc for four cylinder machines.
