Hi all and welcome into June, the half way point of the year.

Here’s hoping that we are all refreshed and reinvigorated after the holiday weekend to start the second half of the year. And lets not forget that the coldest months lie ahead. Having said that the shortest day is fast approaching.

The birth stones for June are the pearl, alexandrite and moonstone. The zodiac sign is Gemini until the 20th the Cancer from the 21st.

A big whatsoninvers.nz congratulations to Alice Fraser, winner of the New Zealand Gold Guitar Awards Senior category.

The astute judges clearly saw and heard something in Fraser and her rendition of the song “Lonely” to give her the edge in a closely contested category. Could someone please point Alice in the direction of a good recording studio to record “Lonely” so we can all share her interpretation of a song that clearly cuts deep. We can’t have it left as a memory on the stage at Gore.

We believe that winning the NZ Gold Guitar Award is the first step on a wonderful journey that will bring pleasure to many  and reap huge rewards. Go Alice !!!!!!

Getting back to the weather, I read that May was the warmest for some years around NZ. Don’t think that would be the case in Southland. Seemed to turn very cold very quickly.

Who’d would have thought that the 4 wheel drivers that had to leave their vehicles stranded in deep snow on the Old Man Range in Central Otago  a couple of weeks ago would have them down so quickly. Most were picking that the vehicles would be up there for the winter.

Goes to show that there’s little that a bit of planning and a big bulldozer can’t fix.

Invercargill City Council have dropped legal action against local factory Niagara Timber co, how much have ICC spent on legal fees?

This time of year is also Matariki

Matariki is the Māori name for the star cluster known as the Pleiades. Traditionally for Māori when it appeared just before dawn in late May or early June, it signalled the start of the Māori New Year.

We hope that there are some activities that we can take part in and learn a bit more about this special celebration.

That’s it, short and sweet this week. Have a good week , drive carefully in these frosty mornings and evenings keep warm !
