Invercargill residents will have the opportunity to farewell Sir Tim Shadbolt during a public funeral service to be held at 2pm on Friday 16 January at the Civic Theatre. The service is open to the public, with doors opening at 1pm. As seating is limited, attendees are encouraged to arrive early to allow time to be seated. If the theatre reaches capacity, additional rooms will be available with a livestream.
Following the service, the funeral procession will depart the Civic Theatre, making its way down Tay Street, onto Clyde Street, and continuing to Invercargill Airport, home to the Sir Tim Shadbolt Terminal, which was renamed in 2024.

Those wishing to pay their final respects are invited to line the streets along the procession route. A private interment at Eastern Cemetery will follow for close friends and family of Sir Tim.
The theatre is expected to reach capacity, and attendees are advised that overflow seating and a livestream will be available at The Scottish Hall. The service is expected to run between 90 and 120 minutes.
At 4pm, a private funeral procession for close family will depart the Civic Theatre, moving slowly along Tay Street, Clyde Street, and continuing through to the Invercargill Airport. The route will return via Tweed Street, ending at The Eastern Cemetery.
Members of the public are encouraged to line the streets along the route to pay their final respects as the procession passes.
The interment at The Eastern Cemetery will be a private affair, attended only by close family and friends.
From approximately 4:30pm, funeral refreshments will be served at the Ascot Park Hotel, where the community is invited to celebrate Sir Tim’s life and legacy.
Those unable to attend in person can view the funeral via the official livestream, available when available on Friday.
