Plans for the Invercargill premiere of the movie Pork Pie have been downsized, from a fully fledged red carpet premiere event at the Invercargill Civic theatre to a screening at Readings Cinema.
The premiere was originally booked into the Civic Theatre for February 1st. The screening will now take place at Readings Cinema complex on Dee Street the same evening.
A nationwide advanced screening of the movie the same night meant the Council made the decision to transfer the premiere to the Reading Cinemas complex in Invercargill.
Invercargill City Council CEO Richard King said the decision to change venues wasn’t taken lightly but it was the practical thing to do.
He said “there are significant costs to install projection gear in the Civic Theatre. Once we learned that the film would be shown in Invercargill that same night, the prudent decision was to change to a venue that already had that projection equipment built-in.”
The movie stars and other dignitaries will make their way from Esk St to the Readings Cinema complex which has been hired by the City Council for the event.
A breakfast the following day (Feb 2) will be held at Transport World to mark the opening of a Pork Pie exhibition.
People who have already bought tickets to the event at the Civic Theatre will be contacted by Theatre staff and a full refund provided. These people will also have first refusal on tickets to the premiere at Reading Cinemas.
Tickets to the red carpet premiere at Reading Cinemas will cost $25 and are available exclusively at the ICC ticket office.

Parts of the movie were filmed in and around Invers last year.
