Police in Gore are making steady progress in their investigation of a suspicious house fire in Waikaia that occurred earlier this year.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Elswick Street shortly after midnight on Wednesday 21 February. Although no one was hurt, the fire caused serious damage to the house and two vehicles parked on the property.

Detective Sergeant Brian McKinney confirmed that Police are continuing to work actively on the case. "There are positive leads in our investigation that we are looking into, however we continue to appeal to the public for any information they have on this incident."

Authorities remain committed to finding the person responsible. “We know there are people out there who may know something about this house fire, and we would like them to get in touch,” McKinney said.

He added, "If you know anything, we encourage you to come forward and speak to us."

Police understand the incident occurred some time ago but are confident that public assistance could still be crucial in solving the case.
