Police are actively investigating a suspicious house fire in Waikaia and are in search of two vehicles believed to be connected to the incident. Detective Sergeant Brian McKinney has called for public assistance in locating a red vehicle and a dark-colored twin-cab ute, which was seen towing a trailer. These vehicles were spotted near Elswick Street around the time the fire was started and are considered crucial to the investigation. Specifically, the red vehicle was observed speeding away from Elswick Street towards Riversdale shortly after the incident.
The police are urging anyone who might have seen these vehicles before or after the fire to come forward. Information can be reported to the police by calling 105, using the online reporting system at 105.police.govt.nz (with reference to file number 240222/8704), or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
