Invercargill police officers were called to Esk Street at approximately 3:15 pm after reports of youths carrying what appeared to be a firearm. As a precautionary measure, armed police officers were sent to the scene and conducted a thorough sweep of Esk Street and the Invercargill Central shopping centre.
Despite extensive inquiries, the youths were not located, and the police believe that there was no cause for concern.
The police have assured the public that they take these reports seriously and will continue to investigate any suspicious activity. They also urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact the police.
