Police have named two men who died in separate crashes in Southland last month, and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Logan John Cahill, 53, died in a crash on Edendale-Woodlands Highway on 22 April at around 8am. Police say their thoughts are with his family and loved ones as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Authorities are seeking anyone who witnessed the crash and has not yet spoken to police. They also want to hear from drivers who were travelling on Edendale-Woodlands Highway around the time of the incident and may have dashcam footage.

In a separate incident, police have also named 23-year-old Enoch Carlisle from the Southland District, who died in a single vehicle crash on Leet Street, Invercargill on Sunday 22 March.

Police continue to investigate that crash and have issued an earlier appeal to understand the circumstances better. They are seeking witnesses or anyone with CCTV footage from the vicinity of Wellesley Avenue, Avenal Street or Kelvin Street.

Both investigations remain active as police work to piece together what happened in each case. The crashes highlight ongoing road safety concerns in the region, with authorities relying on public assistance to understand the full circumstances.

Anyone with information about the Edendale-Woodlands Highway crash can contact police via 105, quoting file number 260422/5451. For the Leet Street incident, people can make a report online at 105 or contact police using reference number 260322/6911.

Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

The investigations underscore the importance of witness accounts and technological evidence like dashcam and CCTV footage in helping police understand how fatal crashes occur. Both families are dealing with the sudden loss of their loved ones while police work to provide answers about the circumstances of each tragedy.
