Police Investigating Red BMW In Waikaia Fire

Police are continuing their investigation into a suspicious house fire that occurred in Waikaia earlier this year.

Emergency services responded to a house fire on Elswick Street shortly after midnight on Wednesday 21 February 2024.

Detective Sergeant Brian McKinney of the Gore CIB said the investigation team has now identified a vehicle of interest and is appealing for information about its movements.

“The vehicle is a red BMW Z3 convertible, like the one pictured, which was seen leaving the Waikaia township at speed around the time of the fire,” said Detective Sergeant McKinney. “On that same night, the vehicle was also observed travelling towards the Riversdale area, again at speed.”

Police are asking anyone with information about this vehicle, or a similar one, to come forward. They are particularly interested in any sightings or video footage of the car in or around the Waikaia area on the night of the fire.
