Detective Sergeant Brian McKinney announced that the police are currently investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed a house on Elswick Street in Waikaia, Northern Southland. The incident, which occurred shortly after midnight on Wednesday, prompted an immediate response from emergency services. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, although the property suffered significant damage.

Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that may shed light on the circumstances leading up to or immediately following the blaze. “We are pursuing several avenues of investigation, but it’s crucial that we gather as much information as possible. If anyone noticed anything out of the ordinary around the time of the fire, we urge them to come forward,” Detective Sergeant McKinney stated.
