A homicide investigation is underway in North Dunedin after a 36-year-old man was found dead at a property on Great King Street on Friday afternoon.

Police were called to the scene around 2pm following reports of a sudden death. Upon arrival, officers discovered the man deceased at the property.

A scene guard has remained in place while forensic experts continue to examine the area. Initial findings suggest that the man’s injuries were not accidental, prompting police to treat the case as a homicide.

Detective Inspector Shona Low, Crime Manager for the Southern District, confirmed that police are working to determine exactly how and when the man died.

“There will be an increased Police presence in North Dunedin as we work to establish how the man died, and when,” she said.

Formal identification is expected to be completed in the coming days, along with a forensic post-mortem examination.
