Police in Invercargill have located a body believed to be that of Stanley, an 81-year-old man reported missing on Monday. The discovery was made in the Oreti River following a search operation.

Stanley was last seen at his home around 1.15 pm on Monday. At the time, he was thought to be wearing navy blue trackpants, black shoes, and a fawn-coloured shirt. Concerns were raised due to his limited mobility, which led police to focus their search efforts in the Fosbender Park area near Sandy Point.

The police have informed the man’s family of the discovery. While formal identification processes are yet to be completed, investigators believe the body is that of the missing man.

A search and rescue operation was launched earlier in the week, involving police and Land Search and Rescue teams. The death will now be referred to the coroner for further investigation.
