Following a number of burglaries in Western Southland recently, we’d like to warn farmers in the area to be vigilant with securing their properties at night.
Over the past week three 4×4 motorbikes have been stolen late at night from the dairy run off block on farms in the Taramoa and Hokonui areas, after the bikes had been left there overnight.
“As it’s a busy time for farmers, with calving season beginning, the last thing farmers need is to be without a motorbike – so we ask you take extra care in securing your farm vehicles when they turn in for the night” says Senior Sergeant Peter Graham, Sub Area Response Manager Western Southland.
“We also suggest installing sensor lights and CCTV cameras, as they can be a great way to deter thieves”
“Anyone who witnesses anything suspicious is asked to please contact Police immediately”
“We also ask that if you’re out and about at night and you happen to spot a motorbike on a trailer, jot down the registration of the vehicle and let Police know”.
Anyone with information is asked to contact their local Police Station, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
