Open Day at Adventure Southland to Celebrate 20 Years
Adventure Southland is celebrating 20 years of getting out and about in Southland with an Open Day on Sunday 13th October.
From humble beginnings operating out of a vehicle, they have expanded to their present location in Lorneville. As well as a wide variety of high ropes, low ropes, and team building activities on site, they offer various outdoor pursuits across Southland and Fiordland, including rock climbing, abseiling, caving, kayaking and tramping.
The Open Day, held at their premises at 810 North Road, will allow the public to try something new, challenge themselves, and have fun in a safe, supportive environment. Activities on offer will include climbing, horizontal bungy, Ultimate Archery, and elements of the recently upgraded Challenge Ropes Course.
David Fenton, co-owner of Adventure Southland says, “We often hear from people who have always wanted to come out and have a go on our ropes course but didn’t realise we are open to the public.
“Our 20th celebration and the coinciding opening of our upgraded Challenge Ropes Course seemed like a good opportunity to let people know what we offer.”
Tickets are available for $15 on the day and will allow purchasers to have a turn on four activities of their choosing. All profits from ticket sales will be donated to Southland LandSAR.
“We were looking for a way to give back to the local community that has supported us for the past two decades, and LandSAR seemed like the obvious choice. They have a lot of volunteers who work hard to help those that have been lost or injured in the outdoors, and they do a surprising amount of work in urban settings too. We know they are currently fundraising for some new gear, so we hope we can make a meaningful contribution.”
With plenty of giveaways provided by local businesses, including Southern Adventure, Macpac and Back Country Cuisine, the event has been well received by the community.
“We really appreciate the support we have received so far. I think people in Southland are keen to rally behind a good cause, and we are excited to see families getting out and having a great time trying something new.”
