A serious assault at Southland Boys High School this afternoon, led to one student being hospitalised while another taken into Police custody.

The injured student with serious injuries was taken to Southland Hospital by Emergency services.

Both people involved were students at the school, School rector Simon Coe confirmed.

An email sent out to parents of the school said…

Dear Parents/Caregivers/Whanau I can confirm a student has been injured by another student in an incident at the school today (6th November).

The student received medical attention for his injuries. Southland Boys’ High School takes its responsibilities towards the safety of our students extremely seriously.

We have launched our own internal enquiry and are co-operating fully with the police investigation. We have also notified the Ministry of Education.

Please be aware that support is available for those that feel they would like to access it with regards to this incident. The school councillor will be available and an information debrief will be held for the student’s tomorrow morning.

Police investigations are continuing.
