On Thursday afternoon in Invercargill, a train collided with a car at the Renfrew Street railway crossing. Initial reports indicate that at least one person was seriously injured in the accident.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that officers were called to the scene at 3.40pm and that Fire and Emergency New Zealand and St John were also notified.

According to a St John spokesperson, two people were in the car at the time of the collision and both were taken to Southland Hospital, one with moderate injuries and the other with serious injuries.

Remember to keep a look out for trains at crossings, as they can appear from no where.
