• The 8th annual Bangers to Bluff automotive charity event, hosted by the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay, aims to raise awareness and funds for Multiple Sclerosis New Zealand through a thrilling 12-day journey from Auckland to Invercargill.
  • Featuring 16 cars worth less than $2000, the rally will cover thousands of kilometers of New Zealand’s less-traveled roads, showcasing breathtaking landscapes and uniting car enthusiasts and the MS community.

The Bangers to Bluff event, a cornerstone initiative by the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay, is poised for its eighth annual rally this April. Participants will journey in budget-friendly vehicles from Auckland down to Invercargill, from the 9th to the 20th, in an effort that extends beyond the thrill of the drive to touch the lives of those affected by multiple sclerosis (MS).

The rally’s route is designed to bring to light the breathtaking yet less-trodden paths of New Zealand, serving both as an adventure and a poignant campaign to raise funds and awareness for MS.

The condition of MS, marked by a diverse array of symptoms like fatigue and mobility challenges, impacts thousands across New Zealand. Within this community of warriors is Graham Walker, a beacon of determination and hope.

Having been diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS in 2013, Walker has taken up the challenge to cycle each morning before the rally cars set off, proving to himself and others that maintaining physical activity is key in managing the condition. His actions resonate with the sentiment he proudly shares: “It’s an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be involved in this epic event again… The funds raised are just so significant to the work that our national organisation manages throughout the regions right across our country. Remember, Exercise is Medicine.”

Echoing the enthusiasm and dedication of participants like Walker, previous entrants have noted the event’s unique ability to unveil the unseen beauty of New Zealand, calling it “a fabulous event” and the “best road trip we have ever done.”

The commitment to raising MS awareness is further emphasized by Amanda Rose, National Manager at MS New Zealand, who highlights the importance of Graham’s participation: “We are incredibly proud to have Graham. His unwavering determination and commitment to raising awareness of MS are truly inspiring.”

Bangers to Bluff 2024 not only promises an unforgettable journey but also invites enthusiasts, adventurers, and philanthropists to come together in support of a noble cause. For more information on how to participate or contribute, interested individuals are encouraged to visit the event’s website and follow their Facebook page for updates. There is an auction happening on 20th April in Invercargill where 13 cars will be up for grabs – perfect runarounds for getting around NZ.
