Aussie has The Melbourne Cup. we have the New Zealand Trotting Cup.

The Big Dance, as they call it all part of the huge week that is show week in Christchurch.

There are so many top horses and drivers that will line up for the $1 million big race that it's hard to pick an outright favourite, although last years winner Swayzee has come back from Australia in a bid to make it two from two and looks to be in red hot form.

Other names that tipsters are picking are Merlin, Don't Stop Dreaming and Republican Party to name just a few.

Look out for a couple of horses with a Southland connection, the Greg Manson trained Franco Marek in the Cup race. Driver John Morrison will wear the colours of the late Blair Vinning as Greg and Blair were close mates.

Also look for Southland owned Fiery Bandito in race 7. Co-owner Tom Kilkelly clocked up 200 wins earlier this year, will Fiery Bandito take him past 200?

The NZ Trotting Cup starts at 5.46pm
